Proficiency/Placement Exams

  • Students who have taken 法国, 西班牙语, and 德国 in High School or are heritage speakers but are not international students at the time they enroll at UE are required to take a placement test before arriving at their SOAR date. Instructions for how to take the placement test have been sent via email from 入学s. Students must choose a language before the test will populate in Blackboard.   • If students fail to take the placement test before their SOAR, they must contact Ms. 阿内尔 to request a specific date and time to take the 法国, 德国, or 西班牙语 placement test.
  • Students who have received a 4 or a 5 on a 法国, 西班牙语, and 德国 AP test will place into 法国, 西班牙语, 德语311. Students who get a 4 or a 5 on both the 西班牙语 Literature AP test and the 西班牙语 AP test will place into 西班牙语 311 and get 3 UE elective credits (not 西班牙语 course credit).
  • Students who believe they have not been placed at the appropriate level should contact the foreign languages department.
  • Students who have taken 法国, 西班牙语, and 德国 in High School should not just self-place. Please take the placement test.
  • Students who place into 211 will get 9 credits (111, 112, 和211年), if they successfully complete 西班牙语, 法国, 德国 211 with a C or better.

Proficiency Tests

  • Students who “place” into 211 and need 111 and 112 for the BS, but do not wish to take 211, or place into 311, and need 111-212 for the BA. must prove proficiency by emailing Mrs. Patterson-Knox, to schedule a proficiency exam and interview with UE FLC faculty. Proficiency will count as Outcome 6 complete, but will not be counted towards your graduation credits.
  • For students seeking to document proficiency in a language not offered at UE, 线性时不变, Clep, AP考试成绩, and other college accredited proficiency exams are accepted as documentation of language proficiency pending 注册商 and Department approval. Proficiency only will count as Outcome 6 complete, but will not be counted towards your graduation credits.
  • For international students who have not gone to high school in the US, the TOEFL exam counts and your Outcome 6 is counted as complete, but no credits are given.
